We are happy to present the winning visual of our internal monthly challenge.
The aim of monthly challanges in our office is the constant developement of our skills and possibility to learn from each other. Each month we try to choose really general topic that gives authors freedom in crearting various interpretations.
In the result, every proposal is outstanding. In this article Jakub Tajer, the author of winning visualization explains in his words step by step how he achieved that impressive effect.
Topic of the month – Bridge
The beginning of every monthly challange is creating raw model and exporting it to 3dsmax. The only data that is fixed in the base file are the model and camera angles. The whole rest is left for every team member and his creativeness.
“Once the camera angle is set, I move on to create surroundings. This time the ground was created in Archicad. It was combined with four surfaces corresponding to different materials – ground, water, grass and snow. After exporting it to 3dsmax I matched them with appropriate materials to acheive the foregoing effect. ” – Jakub says.
“Now it is time to implement some background and foreground models which would enrich the image and make it look natural. Some models as for example broken tree or high grass were added as 3d model while others were simple 2d graphic.”
“The trick is to choose, which elements need to be very detailed and visible, and which will be barely noticed. That way we don’t need to use lots of heavy models. Instead, we can create simple planes with pictures, facing camera. In this picture the whole background of moutains and part of the trees are made thst way. This technique is usefull also for objects that are difficulat to model, for example bears. Of course, we could put them simply using photoshop but than object would not affect the environment. Our method allows Corona to render plane graphics creating water/glass reflecions which make the picture look more realistic. On the picture above all green areas are 3d models and red areas – planes with 2d graphic.”
“Because of the fact that most of the light effects were added in 3dsmax, the postprodution in Photoshop was minimal. Only simple reflections on stones and fog was implemented during this final step. Hope you like the final result.”
